  4. #14. Xabi Alonso: Nagore Aranburu

Xabi Alonso is married to Nagore Aranburu. The two met when they were teenagers and dated for several years before getting married. When Xabi transferred to Liverpool, Nagore moved with him and she has been reported saying that the move played a big role in the development of their relationship. There have also been reports that the birth of their first child, Jontxu, caused some unintended consequences in Xabi’s professional life. Awaiting his first child, Xabi missed an important game for Liverpool which made Rafa Benitez (the former Liverpool manager) very unhappy. This caused a rift between the two and eventually led to Xabi’s move to Real Madrid. The couple got married in Apeitia, Guipuzcoa on July 12th 2009. Now, they reside in Madrid with their two kids, Jontxu and Ane. They are definitely one of the most classiest couples in football and we wish the best for them!

“It was more than eight years ago, we were in the same group of friends, and one night, he asked for my mobile. I thought he had forgotten his, but he wanted something else: he called his own phone with mine so that he would have my number, and I would have his. The next day, he called me, we went out to eat in a great restaurant in San Sebastián and after that we went to a jazz club to meet up with Mikel and his girlfriend. He asked us, ‘but what are you doing here? And together?’” -Nagore on how Xabi courted her.

Hearing love stories like this are so refreshing to the soul and absolutely LOVELY! It’s not scripted (unlike other stories now… eh-hem!) and their real people. Hope I’ll find my own charming Xabi Alonso in the future… ha ha!

  6. I will probably never get over Steven Gerrard’s and Xabi Alonso’s kiss. It’s the sweetest thing ever, srsly.

    doublexnegative:

Interviewer: We’re going to change the subject from a violent moment to a romantic one: your kiss with Gerrard. It was so beautiful! I hope you tell me you’ve celebrated better on other ocassions.
Xabi: Well, it was a spur of the moment thing, but I think it’s just a funny anecdote, he came to me…
Interviewer: Keep in mind it was him.
    Xabi: But well, I answered.

  8. But we played with pride, managed to equalize and continued to fight. Nothing negative can be said about this team.

  9. hepatosaurus:

“Well, in football anything can happen and we all know that. It was what we wanted… score first, that was the first step for la remontada which is very difficult by itself. But I think the images speak for themselves. Anyone who sees them can make their own mind about it. I’m not stating my opinion here, it’s a fact. I also believe everyone has their own style, they have been very equal matches and as long as we were with the same number of players on each side it was like that. I would never go and tell another team how to play. I respect coaches, players and staff from other teams too much to just go and tell them how they should play or not.  Bottom line, we were always competitive as long as it was possible and we defended our crest as much as we could. Goodnight.”

    - Xabi Alonso, on the disallowed goal and more.

    Just putting this out there.

    Xabi Alonso

    The perfect man exists!

World Cup champion, good looking, 77kg, 1,83m, friendly, polite…his only flaw? He’s happily married. We tell you everything about him.

He’s a star at Real Madrid and our national team, he won a world cup and another Eurocup … and he’s like a train! His professional and physical merits made him become the new image for the moisturizing cream Gillete Energizante.

How do you describe yourself? I’m a very calm man with principles.

Are you born with a body like that or not? You’re born with it and have to keep working it. I train 3 hours a day.

Your beauty routine. The basic care: a moisturizing cream (from Gillete, of course), something made of wax for the hair, a great dehodorant, shampoo..

To what do you decicate your free time? Right now, to be with my children Jon and Nerea.

The footballers have a fame for being flirtatious. Are you the exception? No, there are many exceptions! I feel very priviledged with my familiar life. I don’t need anything else.

What characteristics interest you in a woman? That she’s a good person, honest, caring and sincere.

What do you dislike? Bad education

What’s the secret for a man and a woman to understand each other? I believe you have to give in and know how to coexist.

What would be the perfect date? A quiet evening. I really enjoy having dinner and getting to know new places with my wife.

    VERY PERSONAL

A flaw Sometimes I’m too quiet.

    A virtue Patience

A song Flaca by Andrés Calamaro.

    A movie Casablanca.

    A book The great Gatsby.

    Can’t live without.. my phone.

A celebrity you’d like to meet Right now, Obama.

Would you rather seduce of be seduced? Seduce.

Sex or football? I can’t choose! You can’t live with just one. So both.

  11. “Pepe’s red card was decisive. The match was unfolding as we wanted it to: we hadn’t conceded goals and were waiting for our chance. The send-off changed the game. We feel frustrated for an unfair red card because it was obvious on the pitch that Pepe’s tackle did not deserve to be punished that way.”

“We didn’t suffer until the send-off. Everything changed with the red card. It was a harsh blow to all of us. Making such a decision in a Champions League semifinal requires much thought.”

“The squad is hurt, but we will start to prepare for the return leg in a few hours and we will do so as seriously as we worked on tonight’s game. Very surprising things happen in football, but I feel so terrible that I can only talk about the send-off right now.”

“We still have to play a second game, but we know it will be very difficult to win the tie. We will try to turn the aggregate score around.”

    -Xabi Alonso

  12. Real Madrid Players: their thoughts.

    christiesinsaneasylum:

“The support from Madridismo was fundamental and vital. Winning a title with such a committed team is such a thrill. Mourinho is the captain of this ship and through his philosophy he tries to teach us values that have served us well.”

    -Ramos

“I am very happy. It was an intense match, but our joy is so much greater. It was the first title up for grabs this season and we wanted to win it. We are pleased for the team, for the team and for the fans. Now it’s time to enjoy it, so we will go celebrate as deserved.”
    -Xabi Alonso

“This is for the fans. We have had two bad years, but though hard work and commitment we have proved that we can. We owe it to all those who came and all those still in Madrid. This is another Cup for Madridismo. Mourinho is a phenomenal coach.”
    -Casillas

“I am very happy. This is a very important title and our goal as well as that of the coach was to win it. We are extremely happy and now it’s time to celebrate. It was a very hard match, but whoever scores wins. Mourinho is doing a great job and helping us a lot. He exudes positive energy and we feel it.”
    -Ronaldo

“We knew we could win this title and we did it. The team’s strength was unity and the desire to win this match and those on the horizon. Let’s hope it continues because we are more united than ever.”
    - Di Maria

“We gave a great performance. It is only possible to defeat Barcelona by playing a near-perfect game. We are already thinking of the Champions League, where we’ll have two tough games in which we’ll suffer. We dedicate this to our families and, above all, to all the Madridistas who came to Valencia and stayed back in Madrid. We’ve won a title Madridismo’s been expecting for a very long time. People were anxious to return to Cibeles and we will enjoy this title with them there.”
    -Arbeloa

“We won today, but we must keep the good work up to continue winning in the future. We are all very happy. I wish to thank fans for their amazing support.”
    -Marcelo

“We gave an incredible performance. The team showcased spirit and great sacrifice. We did a great job in the first half. We relaxed a bit after half-time, but Cristiano soon finished off the game. We should all congratulate ourselves because we all helped the team win tonight.”
    -Pepe
